ما أخْفَيْتُ مِن وَجْدِي
My eye reveals
My eyes reveal
What I have concealed of my passion.
What I've hidden of my passion

How can I keep it secret,
How can I conceal
When my tears have already betrayed me?
When my tears have grown

لِنْتُ لِلْهِجْران
وماand not اللَّيْنُyielding مِنof طَبْعيmy nature
وما اللَّيْنُ مِن طَبْعي
I have yielded to estrangement,
I've become inclined to separation
Though yielding is not in my nature.
And gentleness isn't my nature

The power of the eyelids
The power of my eyelids
Is more than I can bear.

It alone reduces me
What, then, when joined with rejection?
So how could I bear the separation

Oh gazelle, what a state
In your pledge toward the lovesick lover,
To the passion in the covenant

After it has turned
From union to rejection.
From union to separation

This coldness has lasted long,
This aloofness has been prolonged
And you have wronged me deliberately.
And you've been led with intention

I didn't want my distance
But such is my fortune.
But it is my fortune

بَدَا وردُ خَدَّيْهِ
A young gazelle with long lashes.
Florid and gentle
The rose-bloom of his cheeks appeared;
The roses of his cheeks appeared

He feared it would be plucked,
Fearing they'd be plucked
And guarded it with his eye,
He protected them with his eyes

Like spears—[the epithet is unclear as written]—
Like a sparrow hawk
Hovering over the roses.
Hovering over roses

Death of the heart
Your slaves are mad with love.
Your servant Hayman

The lovesick lover's desire
The desire of passion
Is to be enrolled among the servant boys.
That it may write from the youths

The best I have
Is when you cry, 'My slave!'
When you are well, my servant
