انْ رمتموا تشربوا الحُميا

انْ رمتموا تشربوا الحُميا

أو تستقوا من دنِان ريّا

أو تستقوا من دنِان ريّا

If you wish to drink the strong wine,

If you throw stones at it you drink its brackish water

Or seek a drink from brimming wine jars,

Or draw water gently from its springs

فالميت بالشرب يَغْدُو حيّا

فالميت بالشرب يَغْدُو حيّا

وفي سبيل الهوى تَباَهُو

وفي سبيل الهوى تَباَهُو

For through drinking, the dead become alive.

For the dead live again through drinking it

And take pride in the path of love.

And for love's sake you joy and revel

فشنفوا مسمعي وقولوا

فشنفوا مسمعي وقولوا

يا هو يا هو ياهو

يا هو يا هو ياهو

So delight my ears and say:

So open my ears that I hear you say

O He, O He, O He!

Oh He! Oh He! Oh He!

هذه كؤوس الحبِ تجلى

هذه كؤوس الحبِ تجلى

واسطرُ الخافياتِ تتلى

واسطرُ الخافياتِ تتلى

These cups of love are unveiled,

And mysteries of the hidden recited

And the lines of hidden mysteries are recited

To people killed by love's sickness

على أناسٍ في الحب قتلى

على أناسٍ في الحب قتلى

من حبِهم بالغرام باحوا

من حبِهم بالغرام باحوا

To people slain in love,

Who through passion have confessed their love

Who, out of their love, spoke openly of passion.

Oh Lord, bless and greet also

يا ربِ صلِّ أيضا وسلْم

يا ربِ صلِّ أيضا وسلْم

على نبيٍ أضحى مُعَلمْ

على نبيٍ أضحى مُعَلمْ

O my Lord, also send blessings and grant peace

A prophet who became a guiding light

Upon a prophet who became a teacher.

To a Muslim, be to him a Muslim

لمسلَم كن له مسلْم

لمسلَم كن له مسلْم

في يوم حشرٍ أحسنْ لقاه

في يوم حشرٍ أحسنْ لقاه

For a Muslim, be his protector;

On Judgment Day, bless him with good meeting

On the day of gathering, make his meeting good.

So open my ears that I hear you say

فشنفوا مسمعي وقولوا

فشنفوا مسمعي وقولوا

يا هو يا هو يا هو

يا هو يا هو يا هو

So delight my ears and say:

Oh He! Oh He! Oh He!

O He, O He, O He!
