تلقح أشجارنا والثمارْ يطيبْ
If you look upon us with a gracious glance,
If you look upon us with a kindly gaze,
our trees grow fertile, and their fruit grows sweet.
Our trees are pollinated, and the fruits grow sweet.

تكثر علايلي والشرابْ يغيبْ
But if you forsake us, we are bereft of rest;
And if you forsake us, we lose our rest;
my afflictions multiply, and the wine disappears.
My ailments multiply, and the wine vanishes.

You have left me like the collared dove
You have made me like the ring-necked dove
that warbles in the morning hour.
That sings at morning's hour.

Or like Ali, who used to visit them,

The One dwelling in my very being has bewildered me;
This dweller within my being has bewildered me.
whoever I have not given drink has never drunk from it.
Whoever I have not given drink to has not drunk of it.

This is the path of some of my masters,
and along it they guide their disciple.
And they lead their disciple along it.

Be my witnesses, O masters of the spiritual state.
what we say, we behold with our own eyes.
And what I say, I see with my own eyes.
