صبّ على عَهْدِكم مُقيمُ

صبّ على عَهْدِكم مُقيمُ

يا منْ بِكم مِثُلهُ يهيمُ

يا منْ بِكم مِثُلهُ يهيمُ

A lovesick lover abides by your covenant.

I firmly poured my covenant to you

O you for whom his like is lost in love!

O you, for whom the likes of it yearns

لَيسَ له عَنْكم اشْتِغالُ

لَيسَ له عَنْكم اشْتِغالُ

كَيْف ودَأبُ الهَدى واللزومُ

كَيْف ودَأبُ الهَدى واللزومُ

Nothing distracts him from you.

It has no distraction from you

How could he, when his way is guidance and steadfast adherence?

How could it, as guidance and adherence are its habit

كهْف حماكم له مَلاذٌ

كهْف حماكم له مَلاذٌ

يا حبَّذا الكَهْف والرَّقيمُ

يا حبَّذا الكَهْف والرَّقيمُ

The cave of your sanctuary is his refuge.

How your care has been a refuge for it

Ah, how lovely are the Cave and the Inscription!

O excellent is the cave and the companionship

لَمَّا صَفا لِلْهَوَى بِجدِ

لَمَّا صَفا لِلْهَوَى بِجدِ

أسْلمَهُ الخِلُّ والحميمُ

أسْلمَهُ الخِلُّ والحميمُ

When he became pure in love, in earnest,

When it sincerely cleared for passion

His friend and intimate companion abandoned him.

Submission and intimacy surrendered it

قالَ لهُ قد جِئْتُ فانْظُرْ

قالَ لهُ قد جِئْتُ فانْظُرْ

قال كذَا الأمْرُ مُسْتقيم

قال كذَا الأمْرُ مُسْتقيم

He said to him, 'I have indeed come, so look.'

It said to it, “I have come so look”

He said, 'Thus the matter is in order.'

It said, “Thus is the matter upright”

مالِ إِلى شَرْعَةِ التَّصابِي

مالِ إِلى شَرْعَةِ التَّصابِي

فَهْيَ له دينُه القَوِيم

فَهْيَ له دينُه القَوِيم

He inclined toward the way of youthful dalliance;

Incline to the law of accord

So it is, for him, his upright faith.

For it is its steady religion

يا قادِماً من دِيار لَيْلى

يا قادِماً من دِيار لَيْلى

عُطَّرَ من نشْوِكَ القُدومُ

عُطَّرَ من نشْوِكَ القُدومُ

O you coming from Layla's lands,

O you who came from the abode of Layla

Your arrival was perfumed by your intoxication.

Your arrival's thorns are perfumed

كلّ خَلى الفُؤاد صَاح

كلّ خَلى الفُؤاد صَاح

عَذابُه عِنْدنَا ألِيمُ

عَذابُه عِنْدنَا ألِيمُ

Everyone with an untroubled heart is sober;

Every heart's anguish has cried out

His torment is painful to us.

Its torment with us is painful

لَوْ يَبْدو لِلنَّاس ما بَدا لي

لَوْ يَبْدو لِلنَّاس ما بَدا لي

قالوا ألاَ إِن ذا عَظيمُ

قالوا ألاَ إِن ذا عَظيمُ

If what appeared to me were revealed to people,

If what appeared to me appeared to people

They would say, 'Behold, this is truly great!'

They would say, “Verily, this is tremendous”

شرِبْتُ بالدُّرّ كاسَ خمْر

شرِبْتُ بالدُّرّ كاسَ خمْر

عاصِرُها الصَّانِعُ القَدِيم

عاصِرُها الصَّانِعُ القَدِيم

I drank a cup of wine with pearls;

I drank from the pearl a cup of wine

The one who pressed it is the eternal Maker.

Whose maker is the Ancient

وطِبْتُ لمَّا فَهمْتُ رمْزِي

وطِبْتُ لمَّا فَهمْتُ رمْزِي

وفَهْمُه المطْلَبُ القَويمُ

وفَهْمُه المطْلَبُ القَويمُ

And I rejoiced when I understood my symbol;

And I revived when I understood my symbolism

And understanding it is the right aim.

And its understanding is the firm goal

بَدَا لنَا من حِمَاهُ سِرُّ

بَدَا لنَا من حِمَاهُ سِرُّ

يفُوحُ عن لطْفهِ النسيمُ

يفُوحُ عن لطْفهِ النسيمُ

A secret appeared to us from his sanctuary;

From its protector a secret appeared to us

The breeze wafts fragrantly from his subtle grace.

Diffusing from its subtle breeze

فَوقْتُنا الآن مثْلُ سَيْفِ

فَوقْتُنا الآن مثْلُ سَيْفِ

وكلُّ وقْت له عَدِيم

وكلُّ وقْت له عَدِيم

So our moment now is like a sword;

For now we are like a sword

And every moment is as nothing beside it.

And every time for it has no match
