ماذاwhat تَقولونَwill you say إِنif قالَsays النَبيُّthe Prophet لَكُمto you
ماذا تَقولونَ إِن قالَ النَبيُّ لَكُم
ماذاwhat فَعَلتُمhave you done وَأَنتُمwhile you are آخِرُthe last of الأُمَمِthe nations
ماذا فَعَلتُم وَأَنتُم آخِرُ الأُمَمِ
What will you say if the Prophet says to you:
What have you done—you, the last of nations—
بِأَهلِto the people of بَيتيmy household وَأَنصاريand my supporters وَمَحرمَتيand those under my protection
بِأَهلِ بَيتي وَأَنصاري وَمَحرمَتي
مِنهُمamong them أُسارىcaptives وَقَتلىand slain people ضُرِّجواwere drenched بِدَمِin blood
مِنهُم أُسارى وَقَتلى ضُرِّجوا بِدَمِ
To my household, my supporters, and those under my protection?
Among them are captives and slain men drenched in blood.
ماnot كانَwas هَذاthis جَزائيmy reward إِذwhen نَصَحتُI gave sincere counsel لَكُمto you
ما كانَ هَذا جَزائي إِذ نَصَحتُ لَكُم
أَنthat تَخلِفونيyou should succeed me بِسَوءٍwith ill treatment فيtoward ذَويthose sharing رَحِميmy kinship
أَن تَخلِفوني بِسَوءٍ في ذَوي رَحِمي
This was not my reward for giving you sincere counsel:
That you should mistreat my kin after me.
