يَقولونَ نَصرانيَّةٌ أُمُّ خالِدٍ

يَقولونَ نَصرانيَّةٌ أُمُّ خالِدٍ

فَقُلتُ ذَروها كُلُّ نَفسٍ وَدينُها

فَقُلتُ ذَروها كُلُّ نَفسٍ وَدينُها

They say, “Umm Khalid is a Christian.”

So I said, “Leave her be; to each soul its own faith.”

فَإِن تَكُ نَصرانيَّةً أُمُّ خالِدٍ

فَإِن تَكُ نَصرانيَّةً أُمُّ خالِدٍ

فَإِنَّ لَها وَجهاً جَميلاً يزَينُها

فَإِنَّ لَها وَجهاً جَميلاً يزَينُها

For if Umm Khalid is a Christian,

then indeed she has a beautiful face that adorns her.

وَلا عَيبَ فيها غَيرَ زُرقَةِ عَينِها

وَلا عَيبَ فيها غَيرَ زُرقَةِ عَينِها

كَذاكَ عِتاقُ الطَيرِ زُرقٌ عيونُها

كَذاكَ عِتاقُ الطَيرِ زُرقٌ عيونُها

And she has no flaw save the blueness of her eye;

so too the noble-bred birds have blue eyes.
