خُذيaccept العَفوَwhat comes without strain مِنّيfrom me تَستَديميyou will preserve مَوَدَّتيmy affection
خُذي العَفوَ مِنّي تَستَديمي مَوَدَّتي
وَلاand do not تَنطُقيspeak فيin سَورَتيmy fury حينَwhen أَغضَبُI grow angry
وَلا تَنطُقي في سَورَتي حينَ أَغضَبُ
Take from me what comes freely, and you will keep my affection enduring.
Accept what comes easily from me, and you will preserve my affection.
And do not speak to me in the heat of my fury when I am angry.
And do not speak amid my fury when I grow angry.
فَإِنّيfor indeed I وَجَدتُhave found الحُبَّlove فيin الصَدرِthe breast وَالأَذىand hurt
فَإِنّي وَجَدتُ الحُبَّ في الصَدرِ وَالأَذى
إِذاwhen اِجتَمَعاthe two come together لَمnot يَلبثlinger الحُبُّlove يَذهَبُdeparts
إِذا اِجتَمَعا لَم يَلبث الحُبُّ يَذهَبُ
For I have found that love and hurt dwell within the breast;
For I have found this of love and hurt within the breast:
When the two come together, love soon departs.
When they come together, love soon departs.
