يُدافِعُني مَهرانُ في نَقدِ دِرهَمٍ
كَأَنَّكَas though you فيover شَيءٍsomething كَبيرٍgreat تُدافِعُyou are stalling
كَأَنَّكَ في شَيءٍ كَبيرٍ تُدافِعُ
Mihran puts me off over the payment of a dirham,
as though you were stalling over some great matter.

How then, when you have already been married to a young woman who resembles
a limping pale she-camel whenever she walks about the house?

You circle around her as though you were biting
on the pelt of a ram whose trotters have been severed.
