أَلا رُبَّ نُصحٍ يُغلَقُ البابُ دونَهُ

وَغِشٍّ إِلى جَنبِ السُرورِ يُقَرِّبُ

وَغِشٍّ إِلى جَنبِ السُرورِ يُقَرِّبُ

Lo, many a word of sincere counsel finds the door barred against it,

Ah, many a piece of counsel has the door shut against it,

while deceit is welcomed close beside delight.

And many a deception brings one to joy’s side.
