نَشَدتُكَI adjure you بِاللَهِby God الَّذيwho حَولَaround بَيتِهِHis House
نَشَدتُكَ بِاللَهِ الَّذي حَولَ بَيتِهِ
بِمَكَّةَin Mecca حَيٌّa clan مِنof لُؤيِّLu’ayy بِنson of غالِبِGhalib
بِمَكَّةَ حَيٌّ مِن لُؤيِّ بِن غالِبِ
I adjure you by God, around whose House
in Mecca dwells a clan of Lu’ayy ibn Ghalib.
فَإِنَّكَfor indeed you قَدhave جَرَّبتَنيyou tested me فَوجَدتَنيand you found me
فَإِنَّكَ قَد جَرَّبتَني فَوجَدتَني
أُعينُكَI help you فيin الدُنياthis world وَأَكفيكَand I spare you جانِبيmy side (my harm)
أُعينُكَ في الدُنيا وَأَكفيكَ جانِبي
For you have tested me and found me
helping you in this world and sparing you harm from my side.
وَإِنand if مَعشَرٌa clan دَبَّتcrept إِلَيكَtoward you عَداوَةًin enmity
وَإِن مَعشَرٌ دَبَّت إِلَيكَ عَداوَةً
عَقارِبُهُمtheir scorpions دَبَّتcrept إِلَيهمtoward them عَقارِبيmy scorpions
عَقارِبُهُم دَبَّت إِلَيهم عَقارِبي
And if a clan sends creeping toward you in enmity
its scorpions, my scorpions creep toward them.
