تَجَنَّبنَنيthey shunned me مِنfrom بَعدِafter شُحٍّpossessiveness وَغَيرَةٍand jealousy
عَلَيَّover me فَماso not ليfor me عِندَهُنَّwith them نَصيبُa share
They shunned me after their possessiveness and jealousy
over me; so I have no share with them.
إِذاif أَناI لَمnot أُمنَعam denied فَأَضعَفُthen the feeblest طالِبٍsuitor
وَإِنand if لَمnot أُطَعI am obeyed عُدَّتare counted لَهُنَّagainst them ذُنوبُsins
If I am not denied, I am the feeblest suitor;
and if I am not obeyed, sins are counted against them.
فَلاso not أَناI لِلعِرفانِbecause of knowledge بِالهَجرِof estrangement أَنثَنيI turn away
وَلاnor النَفسُthe soul عَمّاfrom what لاnot تَنالُit attains تَطيبُis content to let go
So knowing their estrangement does not make me turn away,
nor is my soul content to relinquish what it cannot attain.
