And a reproachful woman blamed you, O Fayd, for your generosity;
O abundantly flowing, she blamed you for being damp,
So I said to her, “Can blame mar the sea?”
So I said to her, does faultfinding stir the sea?
أَرادَتShe sought لِتَثنيto turn away الفَيضَFayd عَنfrom عادَةِthe habit of النَدىgenerosity

She sought to turn Fayd from his habit of generosity;
She wanted to divert your flow from the habit of moisture,
And who is there who can turn the clouds from rain?
But who can deter the clouds from raining their water?
