If you seek a bearer for a trust,

Then leave Nafiʿ aside and find someone who can bear it.

For the fellow is a crafty, inveterate liar, and indeed

He has an evil soul that its own friend detests.

Whenever he is alone one day with a trust,

It is all embezzled, or a portion of it is.

Whenever he does not find it in the morning, he

Will be left bankrupt without it, or its market will stagnate.

And he destroys it until it becomes a worthless trifle,

And every kind of evil that can overtake it does.

Yet he keeps his fat longer than any other man,

Just as every dog that grows fat is a thief among its kind.
