Every person has a counterpart among people, one like himself.

And every person is drawn toward someone who resembles him.

And you cannot do without someone to lodge with, so do not be

a guest of one denounced by those who lodge with him.

And if you lodge with a noble man, meet him

with words you would speak as a man of honor.

And if you lodge with a base man, be a man

who differs from him in conduct and bears with him.

If you will not accept the pride of one endowed with sense,

and resolve and prudence, you will find no one to befriend.

And people stand by their roots alone; for it is

the foundations that hold up the top of every house.
