هَممتُ أَنْ أَفْكِرَ في حُسنِه

هَممتُ أَنْ أَفْكِرَ في حُسنِه

فَخَرَّ مَغْشِيّاً لِفَرْط الأَلمْ

فَخَرَّ مَغْشِيّاً لِفَرْط الأَلمْ

I intended to ponder his beauty;

So he fell unconscious from overwhelming pain.

وأَشْعَرَ الوهم إِلى خدّه

وأَشْعَرَ الوهم إِلى خدّه

فانصبغ الخدّان منه بدمْ

فانصبغ الخدّان منه بدمْ

And imagination signaled toward his cheek;

So both cheeks were stained with blood from it.
