Quraysh honored the covenant with us, despite

the son of Bakr ibn Wa'il's neglect of kinship.

God bless them! How they love a guest when

he arrives, and how they love good things!

A people who, when they bestow favors on you, consider

your thanks for what they bestowed a fault.

Until you consider your truthful praise of them

a lie, because they deny it.

They give away all but their honor, not

caring whether they give gold or dust.

Nor do they care, when their

honor is bound up with wealth, if that wealth becomes plunder.

If people worshipped anyone but their Creator,

they would worship no lord but their honor.

Generosity remains with us as long as they live; and when

they die, generosity meets its end after them.

May the mother of enduring life never wean them, nor

a cup of death force them to drink.
