ولَوَوْا أكُفَّهُمْ علَى أسْبابِهِ
O you—when delegations stand at your door
O He who when the delegations stood at His door
And wind their hands around your cords,
And turned the palms of their hands towards its handles,

مَا لا يَهُمُّ الفَقْرُ أن يحظَى بِهِ
They return, having filled their pale camels’ saddlebags
They returned, having filled the bags of their saddlebags,
With what poverty would never dream of obtaining.
With that which poverty does not dream of obtaining,

Have mercy on a stranger whom separation’s hand has left alone;
Have mercy on a stranger whom the hand of exile has isolated,
He brings his complaint to you, while you know what ails him.
Who complains to You, and You know what is in him.
