أنَاI أرْفَعُthe loftiest of الأبْوَابِthe doors إلاَّyet أنَّنِيthat I
أُدْنَىnearer لِبَاغِيto a seeker of العُرْفِkindness مِمَّاthan those دُونِيbeneath me
I am the loftiest of doors, yet I
Am nearer to a seeker of kindness than those beneath me.
ماnot أغْلَقُونيthey closed me دونَagainst طالِبِa seeker of حَاجَةٍa need
كَلاَّno indeed ولاnor فيin وجْهِهِhis face رَدُّونِيthey shut me
They have never closed me against one seeking help;
No indeed, nor shut me in his face.
أنَاI غَوثُsuccor for مُنتَجِعٍa seeker of bounty وعِصْمَةُand protection for خَائِفٍone in fear
ومَآلُand a refuge for مسْكِينٍa destitute person وسَرْكَرُand a chief دُونِa lowly person
I am succor for a seeker of bounty and protection for one in fear,
And a refuge for the destitute and a chief of the lowly.
لَمْnot تَفْخَرboasted الأبْوابُthe doors إلاّexcept that طُلْتُهَاI surpassed them
فَخْراًin glory لكَونِيbecause I am بابَthe door of شَمْسِShams (sun) الدِّينِal-Din (the faith)
Never have doors boasted without my surpassing them
In glory, because I am the door of Shams al-Din.
