وشَادِنٍand a young gazelle مَرِضَتْfell ill أَجفانُهُhis eyelids فَغَدَاso went
قَلْبيmy heart لهاto them عَائِداًvisiting the sick فانصَاعَthen returned معلُولاailing
And a young gazelle's eyelids fell ill, so off went
my heart to visit them, only to return ailing.
فَمَاتَso died قَلْبِيmy heart وماyet did not ماتَتْdie لَوَاحِظُهُhis glances
ليقضِيَso as to fulfill اللَّهُGod أَمْراًa decree كَانَwas مَفْعُولاto be fulfilled
So my heart died, yet his glances did not die,
that God might fulfill a decree destined to be fulfilled.
