فكانَso was مِنَّاfrom us قِرَاهُhis guest-fare مهجةًheart's blood وحَشَاand entrails
He gifted us his dream-phantom at night, after all was still.
So the fare we offered him was heart's blood and entrails.
ظبيٌa gazelle فرشْتُI spread خدوديmy cheeks إذْwhen أُلِمُّI draw near بهِto him
أَرضاًas ground فلوso if شَاءَhe wished يمشيto walk فوقَهَاupon it لمشَىhe would have walked
A gazelle: I spread my cheeks out when I drew near him,
As ground; had he wished to walk upon it, he would have.

He was like a bān-tree bough beneath a full moon in the dark,
Grown on a dune of the sands of al-Abraqayn.
بتناwe spent the night وباتَand he spent the night يعاطيناhe offers us مُروَّقَةًclear, filtered wine
منfrom رِيقِهِhis saliva لوif حَسَاهاhe sipped it الميْتُthe dead man لانتعَشَاhe would have revived
We spent the night, and he spent it offering us clear wine
From his saliva—had a dead man sipped it, he would have revived.
