إن نُقِلَتْ من شَوَامِخِ الشُّرَفِ

إن نُقِلَتْ من شَوَامِخِ الشُّرَفِ

إليكَ يا قبرُ دُرَّةُ الشَّرَفِ

إليكَ يا قبرُ دُرَّةُ الشَّرَفِ

If from the pinnacles of honor there has been borne

If from the towering battlements there is borne

to you, O grave, honor’s pearl,

To you, O grave, the pearl of honor,

فغيرُ بِدْعٍ فالدرُّ أكثرُهُ

فغيرُ بِدْعٍ فالدرُّ أكثرُهُ

حُسْناً وأبقَى ما كان في الصَّدَف

حُسْناً وأبقَى ما كان في الصَّدَف

that is no wonder: of pearls, the most beautiful

Then it is no strange thing: for the pearls richest

and most enduring is that which lay within the shell.

In beauty and most enduring are those within shells.
