وإنّand indeed يداًa favor أسْدَيتُهَاI bestowed it لحَقيقةٌsurely worthy
وإنّ يداً أسْدَيتُهَا لحَقيقةٌ
بوقَفِof dedicating ثَنائِيmy praise ماas long as حَييتُI live عَلَيهاto it
بوقَفِ ثَنائِي ما حَييتُ عَلَيها
And a favor I bestowed is surely worthy
A hand I lent to truth, while I draw breath
of my dedicating my praise to it as long as I live.
My thanks shall its fair favours celebrate.
فإنْso if سَبقَتْit came first لِيto me بالسُّرُورِwith joy فَهذِهِthen these
فإنْ سَبقَتْ لِي بالسُّرُورِ فَهذِهِ
سَوَابِقُforerunners شُكرِيmy gratitude يَسْتَبقْنَthey race one another إليْهَاtoward it
سَوَابِقُ شُكرِي يَسْتَبقْنَ إليْهَا
So if it was first to bring me joy, then these
Should joy anticipate my prayer beneath,
forerunners of my gratitude race toward it.
My soul's thank-offerings shall anticipate.
