We laughed at the distant past, and tomorrow

the days will make us the laughingstock of the future.

And such is the world: the play of a magician,

great, strange in his art, a creator of wonders.

The living act it out on the stage of sorrow,

and amid the fog of worry, acting like the dead,

so that those behind the fog may witness its acts,

and those who enact what comes next laugh at it.

And everyone performs his role, laughing

at others, yet mocked for his own overbearing role.
