O lily of the hillside, why do I see you
Poppy of the foothills, why do I see you
O lily of the slope, why is it I see
embraced by cruel anguish?
Embraced by cruel longing,
Embraced by the arms of a cruel agony?

Does the voice of flame murmur in your heart
Does the voice of the flame in your tender heart
chanting the song of the abyss?
Chanting the song of the abyss?
Chant aloud the anthem of the abyss?

Has night made you hear the lament of hearts?
Did the night hear the wailing of hearts,
Did the night let you hear the weeping of hearts?
Has dawn made you sip the cup of sorrow?
Did dawn offer you the cup of sorrow,
Did the dawn bid you sip from the chalice of grief?

Has sunset's ray poured upon you
Did the light of sunset pour upon you
Did the rays of the sunset pour down upon you
life's blood and evening's tears?
The sigh of life and the tear of destiny?
The life-blood of being and the tears of the eve?

Has time set you where
Did time stop you where
Did Time arrest you where the wailing of life
life's lament tears open the fissures in breasts,
The lament of life tears open hearts
Bursts open the fissures within human chests?

And night emerges as a woeful,
And the night springs forth as a desolate wraith,
terrifying, and the sorrow of the ages throbs?
Fearsome specter, and the sorrow of ages throbs?
Dreadful, pulsating with the sorrow of eons?

If the songs of darkness have wearied you,
If the songs of darkness distressed you
If the songs of the darkness have made you weary,
the songs of brooding silence have indeed tormented me.
Then the songs of gloom have tortured me,
Then the anthems of gloom have tormented me.

The daughters of hellfire have embraced me.
Then the daughters of hell have embraced me close.

Fiery embers of burning sorrow.
A blazing fire of burning sorrow.

The saliva of grief and the nectar of pain,

Then I have quaffed from her outstretched hand
cups set ablaze, fiercely burning.
Brimming cups that blaze.
Goblets that rage with a fiery burn.

Of its wings the dying voice of sorrow.
Of its wings, the voice of a dying grief.

The bitterness of grief that melts joy.
A bitterness of sorrow that melts the stone.

Come to me, for we have been made one
the cruelty of this tyrannical age.

as it has torn open those wounds in you.
These wounds, as it tore open in you those wounds.
Just as it tore open those wounds in you.

Close companions despite the harsh times.
To be companions, despite the ruthless times.

A mournful tune will be heard
A voice shall be heard like a mournful melody

Echoing from the throb of the strings,
Taking flight from the trembling of a string,

our sorrow will echo it in stillness
Our sorrow repeating it softly
Echoed by our sorrow in the deep silence
over our silent, tranquil grave.
Over our silent, tranquil tomb,
Over our silent, tranquil grave;

And so we shall sleep beneath the deaf earth,
As we lie under the deaf soil
Thus we shall slumber beneath the deaf earth,
together, to the melodies of sorrow.
Together to the tunes of sadness.
Together, to the melodies of grief.
