Sweet you are as childhood, as dreams,

As melody, as the break of a new morning,

As the laughing sky, as the moonlit night,

As the rose, as the smile of a newborn child.

Oh, such gentleness and such beauty,

And youth so soft, verdant, and tender,

Oh, such purity that awakens sanctity

Within the soul of the wretched, stubborn sinner,

Oh, such delicacy, from which the rose

Almost flutters forth from the solid boulder.

What are you? Are you Venus herself,

Who has come to sway among mankind once more,

To restore youth and honeyed joy

    To this miserable, lovesick world?

Or are you an angel of Paradise come to Earth

To revive the spirit of ancient peace?

You are who you are: a beautiful sketch,

A masterpiece of genius from the art of existence,

Holding within you its mystery and depth,

And a beauty that is sacred and adored.

You are who you are: a dawn of magic

Revealed to my heart, baptized in love,

Showing it life in the elegance of beauty,

And unveiling to it the secrets of eternity.

You are the spirit of Spring strutting through

The world, making the magnificent roses tremble,

And life blows, drunk on fragrance,

    And existence echoes with bird-song.

Whenever my eyes behold you walking

With a step as rhythmic as an anthem,

The heart throbs for life, and flowers flutter

In the barren field of my lifespan,

And my melancholy soul becomes intoxicated with love,

And sings like the warbling nightingale.

You revive within my heart that which had

Died in my happy, lost yesterday,

And you construct within the ruins of my spirit

What vanished in my fortunate past—

Of ambition for beauty, for art,

And for that distant, celestial space,

And you instill the tenderness of longing and dreams,

And song and passion into my anthem,

After the depression of my days embraced

My heart and silenced my singing.

You are the Song of Songs, sung by

The God of Song, the Lord of Poetry,

In you youth grew up, adorned by magic,

By the song of passion and the scent of roses,

And Beauty appeared, dancing a dance

That is holy, to the songs of existence.

And there swayed in the horizon of your soul the meters

Of songs and the delicacy of warbling,

So you swayed in existence like a melody,

Genius in imagination, sweet in anthem.

    Steps intoxicated with hymns,

And a voice like the echo of a distant flute,

And a figure that almost speaks in melodies

In every stance and every sitting.

Everything in you is rhythmic, even

The turn of the neck and the trembling of the breast.

You, you are Life in its sublime holiness,

And in its unique, melancholic magic.

You, you are Life in the tenderness of

The dawn, in the splendor of the newborn Spring.

You, you are Life at every moment,

In a fresh and youthful beauty.

You, you are Life; in you and in

Your eyes are the signs of its boundless magic.

You are a world of anthems and dreams,

    Of magic and vast imagination.

You are above imagination, poetry, and art,

Above the intellect and above all limits.

You are my sanctuary, my temple, my morning,

My spring, my ecstasy, and my eternity.

O Daughter of Light, I am the only one

Who saw in you the splendor of the Divine.

So let me live in your sweet shadow,

    And near your witnessed beauty,

A life dedicated to beauty, art, inspiration,

    Purity, radiance, and prostration.

The life of a chaste hermit communing with the

Lord in the rapture of intense trance.

And grant me peace and spiritual joy,

O light of my sought-after dawn.

And have mercy on me, for I have crumbled in a universe

    Built of despair and darkness.

Save me from sorrow, for I have come to

A state where I can no longer bear my existence.

In the ravines of time and death I walk,

Under the burden of life, heavy with chains.

I walk among the people while my soul is like a grave,

And my heart is like a demolished world.

A darkness that has no end, and a terror

    Spreading through its extended silence.

And when the frivolity of people slights me,

I smile in sorrow and stoniness—

A bitter smile, as if I am pulling

    Withered roses from the thorns.

Breathe into my feelings the joy of the world,

    And strengthen my exhausted resolve,

And send heat into my blood, that I may

    Sing with hope once again,

And broadcast to existence the tunes of a heart

Like a nightingale, yet shackled in iron.

For the beautiful morning revives with warmth

The life of the shattered and weary.

Save me, for I am weary of my darkness,

Save me, for I have tired of my stagnation.

Ah, my beautiful flower, if you only knew

What has come to pass in my lonely heart.

In my strange heart, universes are created

    From magic, possessing unique beauty,

    And radiant suns and stars

Scattering light in a vast space,

And a Spring like the dream of a poet

In the intoxication of happy youth,

And gardens that know no pitch-black darkness,

Nor the storm of the inevitable Autumn,

And magical birds singing to one another

    With anthems of sweet warbling,

And palaces like the crimson twilight,

Or the breaking of the newborn morning,

    And delicate clouds swaying

    Like scattered fragments of roses.

And a poetic life which is, to me,

A reflection of the life of the immortals.

All this is built by the magic of your eyes

And the inspiration of your worshipped beauty.

And it is a sin for you to destroy what

Beauty has built in this lovesick heart,

And it is a sin for you to crush the hopes

Of a soul aspiring to a blissful life,

Seeking happiness from you it did not find

In the lives of mortals or the magic of existence.

For the Great God does not cast stones at a servant

When he is in the majesty of prostration.
