    All that stirred, all that crept, and all that

    Slept or hovered over this existence—

    Of birds and flowers and fragrance,

    And springs and swaying branches,

    And seas and caves and peaks,

    And volcanoes and valleys and deserts,

    And light and shadows and darkness,

    And seasons and thickets and thunder,

    And snows and passing mist,

    And whirlwinds and rains that pour generously,

    And teachings and religion and visions,

    And feelings and silence and song—

    All live freely in my heart,

    Fresh in their enchantment, like the children of eternity.

    Here in my spacious, deep heart,

    Death and the specters of existence dance.

    ههُنَا تخفُقُ أَحلامُ الورودْ

    Here the terrors of darkness rage;

    Here the dreams of roses flutter;

    ههُنَا تُعزَفُ أَلحانُ الخلودْ

    Here the echoes of annihilation cry out;

    Here the melodies of eternity are played.

    Here hopes and passion walk,

    And sorrow, in a procession of majestic song.

    ههُنَا اللَّيلُ الَّذي لَيْسَ يَبيدْ

    Here is the dawn that never ends;

    Here is the night that does not perish.

    Here are a thousand raging oceans,

    Forever in revolt, their bounds unknown.

    Here, at every moment, are effaced

    The images of the world, and they appear anew.
