    However much I contemplated life,

and traversed its fearsome, unknown wilderness,

and looked around me, I found nothing

but the doubts of the doubter,

until I was bewildered, yet gained no

    sound judgment through my bewilderment.

    But I exhausted my soul,

    though her weariness was plain,

and drove her on, frail as she was,

    into a struggle against sorrows,

    in an ever-changing wilderness,

    barren, its perils feared.

    Then, if she obtains from

its watering places a drink she relishes,

she slakes the thirst within her breast, and that

is enough for her to return.

And whoever quenches his thirst in this

world scales its heights as an orator.

    Otherwise, she has ridden

    her harrowing mount of days,

    and perished as Eternity willed,

with the blaze within her breast.
