وَكَزَpunched العَدُوُّthe enemy حُبَيِّبيmy little darling
وَكَزَ العَدُوُّ حُبَيِّبي
شُلَّتmay it be paralyzed يَمينُthe right hand وكوزِهِthe one who punched him
شُلَّت يَمينُ وكوزِهِ
The enemy punched my little darling.
The enemy struck down my beloved
The enemy struck my beloved,
May the right hand of the one who punched him be paralyzed!
His right hand and cup were shattered
May the right hand of his striker be paralyzed;
فَكَأَنَّنيso it is as though I رَيّانsated with drink مِنfrom
فَكَأَنَّني رَيّان مِن
قَدَحِthe goblet of النَديمِthe drinking companion وَكوزِهِand his jug
قَدَحِ النَديمِ وَكوزِهِ
So it is as though I have drunk my fill from
As though I was a morning draft
For I became as though I were quenched by
The drinking companion's goblet and his jug.
From the cupbearer's pitcher and cup
The drinking companion's goblet and his jug.
