ياO قَتيلاًa slain one طُلَّwent unavenged مِنهُfrom him دَمٌblood
يا قَتيلاً طُلَّ مِنهُ دَمٌ
بَينَamong أَسدِlions الغابِthe forest طُلَّبهِits avengers
بَينَ أَسدِ الغابِ طُلَّبهِ
O slain one, from whom blood was shed and left unavenged—
O slain one, whose blood went unavenged
O slain one, from whom blood flows,
O slain one, whose blood was shed unavenged,
among the forest’s lions are those who seek vengeance for him.
among the forest’s lions, who seek vengeance for it.
Among the lions of the forest is his attacker,
Whose pursuers were amidst the lions of the thicket,
كانَhe was سَيفاًa sword فيin يَديmy hand ذَكَراًkeen and strong
كانَ سَيفاً في يَدي ذَكَراً
لَوif قَتَلتُI had killed الفيلَthe elephant طُلَّwould have gone unavenged بِهِbecause of him
لَو قَتَلتُ الفيلَ طُلَّ بِهِ
He was a formidable sword in my hand;
He was a keen sword in my hand;
My sword in hand was brave,
He was a sword of sharp, tempered steel in my hand,
had I slain the elephant with it, its blood would have gone unavenged.
had I killed the elephant, its blood would have gone unavenged because of him.
If I had slain an elephant with it, it would have flowed.
Had I struck an elephant with it, it would have been brought low.
