أَجَلي عَنّي أَراثَ شُعوباً
وَبِودّيand I wish أَنَّهاthat she لاnot تُراثُis delayed
وَبِودّي أَنَّها لا تُراثُ
My allotted lifespan has kept Death from me,
My life for a people's legacy
My lifespan has delayed Death from taking me,
and I wish she were not delayed.
Though my love, that it's not an inheritance
Though I wish that it were not delayed.
مُتَّyou died ياO عَبدَAbd (servant of) الغنيّal-Ghani (the Self-Sufficient) وَماand nothing ليfor me
مُتَّ يا عَبدَ الغنيّ وَما لي
مِنكَfrom you إِلّاexcept حَسَراتيmy sorrows تُراثُa legacy
مِنكَ إِلّا حَسَراتي تُراثُ
You died, O Abd al-Ghani, and I have nothing
Die, O slave of riches! For me
You died, O Abd al-Ghani, and I have naught,
from you but my sorrows as a legacy.
You left nothing but my regrets as inheritance
From you, save my sorrows as an inheritance.
