نَعَتِ العَلياءُ زُهراً

نَعَتِ العَلياءُ زُهراً

نَجُبوا ثَمَّ فَسادوا

نَجُبوا ثَمَّ فَسادوا

High glory mourned Zuhra;

Glory proclaimed the passing of radiant men,

The heights of glory eulogized Zuhra,

there they proved noble, and so became lords.

They were noble there, and so became leaders.

They were noble of birth, and thus they ruled.

وَكَذا الدَهرُ صَلاحٌ

وَكَذا الدَهرُ صَلاحٌ

لِلفَتى ثُمَّ فَسادُ

لِلفَتى ثُمَّ فَسادُ

Such, too, is time: prosperity

And such is time: well-being

And such is Time: a span of soundness

for a young man, then decay.

For a young man, then ruin.

For the youth, followed by ruin.
