ألبسني السقمَ بلحظٍ سقيم
Has a slave, refreshed by the water of bliss,
I worship one sated with the water of bliss.
I worship Rayyan with the water of bliss
O Abd, lush and watered by the rains of bliss,
clothed me in sickness with a languishing glance?
He clothed me in sickness with a languid glance.
Sickness clothed me in an ill moment
You clothed me in sickness with a languid glance.

He has traced in musk upon his cheek:
He has written in musk upon his cheek:
He outlined musk on his cheek
He has traced lines of musk upon his cheek,
“Beauty is merely a covering for my skin.”
“Beauty is but an outer skin for my skin.”
Beauty is nothing but my skin upon skin
Beauty is nothing but a skin for my own skin.
ياO عاذِلاًreproacher يحسبنيhe thinks me مثلهlike himself
يا عاذِلاً يحسبني مثله
لاdo not تحسبthink السّالمthe unharmed مثلlike السليمthe snake-bitten
لا تحسب السّالم مثل السليم
O reproacher, who thinks me like himself,
O reproacher who thinks me like himself,
O critic, he thinks me like him
O blamer who accounts me to be just like him,
do not mistake the unscathed for the stricken.
Do not think the unharmed like the snake-bitten.
Consider not the submissive like the unblemished
Do not judge the one safe from love to be like the one stung.
