Dwell secure in everlasting Paradise,
Take your abode in eternal bliss, at peace.
Take your residence in Eternity, reassured and at peace,
and intercede tomorrow, when your father kneels.
And intercede tomorrow, when your father kneels.
And intercede tomorrow, when your father kneels,

Then he will look to you to call out:
Then he shall implore you to call out:
“Lord, have mercy on my father—for him is all my care.”
My Lord, have mercy on my father; my concern is for him.
"My Lord, my father—have mercy on my deep concern for him."

Then the Prophet will say in truth:
Then the Prophet will truly say:
Then the Prophet shall say, in truth:
“Rescue him, O best refuge of all.”
Help him, O best of those called upon for aid!
"Aid him, O Best of those sought for succor."

Three are those through whom I have been stricken,
He has been bereaved of three,
"He has been afflicted with the loss of three,"
and my sure tryst is at the Resurrection.
and my promise holds true at the Resurrection.
"And My promise regarding resurrection is the Truth."

Pray for him a second time, and a third;
Make a double prayer for him, nay, a triple one,
you will be answered on the second or the third.
you will be answered after two or three.
You shall be answered for the two or the three.

Trust that we shall meet by Ṭūbā in Paradise;
Trust that we shall meet in Tuba;
Trust that we shall meet in Tuba,
God may forgive the sin of one who has wrought havoc.
God may forgive a wrongdoer's sin.
For God may forgive the sin of the transgressor.
ثُكليmy bereavement عَلَيكَfor you اِستِماحُbegging a gift from عَينيmy eye
ثُكلي عَلَيكَ اِستِماحُ عَيني

Bereavement for you has begged largesse of my eyes
My grief for you begs my eye for tears
My bereavement for you demands the tribute of my eyes,
and filled books with elegies.
and fills books with elegies.
And the filling of books with elegies.

Your grave-dust is musk, though your tomb enclose it;
Your dust is musk, and though it is guarded
Your dust is musk, even if your grave guards it,
for fragrance’s secret lies in spreading abroad.
by your grave, still the secret spreads abroad.
For the secret lies in its diffusion.
ثَوَيتyou have settled فيamong الطَيِّبينِthe pure دونيwithout me
ثَوَيت في الطَيِّبينِ دوني
فَماso why لِمَثوايَfor my abode فيamong الخباثِthe vile
فَما لِمَثوايَ في الخباثِ
You have taken your abode among the pure, apart from me;
You lie among the pure, without me;
You have settled among the pure ones without me,
why, then, should my abode be among the foul?
so why is my abode among the vile?
So why must my abode be among the wicked?

My garment is worn, yet I do not care
My garment is threadbare, and I do not care
My garment is worn, and I do not care,
whether I am clad in new clothes or in tatters.
whether I wear new garments or rags.
Whether I am in new robes or in rags.

I kept my heart steadfast amid calamities
I steadied my heart amid calamities,
I held my heart firm against calamities,
until fate swept away the one to whom I clung.
until they carried off the one to whom I clung.
Until they folded away the one to whom I clung.

You tempered me, O Time, through warfare
You schooled me, O Time, in war
You have disciplined me, O Time, with war,
like the war of Ṣiffīn or of Buʿāth.
like the war of Siffin or Bu'ath.
Like the war of Siffin or of Bu'ath.

May God thwart you! You spare
May God hinder you! You do not spare
neither noble hawks nor lowly birds.
neither hawks nor weaker birds.
Neither the hawks nor the weak fledglings.

My bough bore fruit—but just when it blossomed
You made my branch bear fruit; then, when it blossomed
You made my branch bear fruit, but just when it blossomed,
and adorned me like the loveliness of pendant earrings.
and adorned me like pendant earrings—
And adorned me with the beauty of precious jewels.
