لَمّاwhen غَداhe began يَتَشَكّىto complain
لَمّا غَدا يَتَشَكّى
كَسلانُlanguid وَهوَyet he was نَشيطُvigorous
كَسلانُ وَهوَ نَشيطُ
When he began to complain—
When morning came, complaining
When he came forth complaining,
Languid, yet full of vigor—
Of weariness, though fresh and lively,
Languid, yet lively in spirit,
شِطناwe perished عَلَيهِfor him وَكُنّاthough we were
شِطنا عَلَيهِ وَكُنّا
عَلىupon القَناthe spears لاnot نَشيطُwe perish
عَلى القَنا لا نَشيطُ
We perished for him, though we
We rated him, while we were languid
We erred against him, though we,
Did not perish upon the spears.
On the road, not lively.
Upon the spears, never err.
