Father, the radiance of the days after you has turned to darkness,
My father, the light of days grew dark after you,
My father, the luminous days have darkened since you left,
and the edifice of my glory collapsed the day you died.
And the edifice of my glory crumbled the day you died.
And the edifice of my glory collapsed the day you died.

My body, which your loss has worn away—though I may depart
And my body, which your loss has wasted—though I may have
And my body, which your loss has withered—even if I have
bearing it with me, my heart has pitched its tent beside you.
Departed with it, my heart has pitched its tent beside you.
Departed with it, my heart has pitched its tent with you.

May God refresh the eye of whoever purposefully pauses
May God give drink from a spring to whoever chooses to pause
May God bless with rain the one who purposely pauses
at your grave, prays that rain may water it, and asks mercy for you,
At your grave, asks for rain upon it, and prays for mercy,
At your grave, invoking water for it and praying for mercy,

and says, “Peace”—for reward is the recompense of whoever
And says, “Peace!”—reward is the recompense of whoever
And saying "Peace"—for reward is the recompense of him who
calls at the stranger’s grave and offers a greeting.
Visits the stranger’s grave and offers a greeting of peace.
Visits the grave of the stranger and offers a greeting.
