قالتshe said هِيَit الشَّيبةgray hair وقَّرتُهاI have honored it
قالت هِيَ الشَّيبة وقَّرتُها
وشيْبةُand the gray hair المرءِof a man تُرِيreveals دينَهhis faith
وشيْبةُ المرءِ تُرِي دينَه
She said, “It is gray hair, and I have honored it;
She said, “It is gray hair; I have honored it,
She said, "It is grey hair, and I hold it in reverence,
A man’s gray hair reveals his faith.”
and a man's gray hair reveals his faith.”
For the grey hair of a man reveals his piety."
فقلتso I said إنّيindeed I لأريدI certainly desire الصباyouth
فقلت إنّي لأريد الصبا
إنif كنتِyou are ياO هندُHind تريدينهyou desire it
إن كنتِ يا هندُ تريدينه
I replied, “Indeed, I long for youth,
So I said, “Indeed, I do desire youth,
So I said, "Indeed, I desire the passion of youth,
If you, Hind, long for it too.”
if you, O Hind, desire it.”
If you, O Hind, desire it too."
