بِقُربِin nearness to عَبدَيكَYour two servants ياO غَنِيُّSelf-Sufficient One
بِقُربِ عَبدَيكَ يا غَنِيُّ
Do not cast me far away tomorrow; draw me near
Do not banish me tomorrow; bring me
Do not distance me tomorrow, bring me close
Do not cast me far away tomorrow, but draw me near,
through nearness to Your two servants, O Self-Sufficient One.
Close to Your two servants, O Self-Sufficient One.
With the nearness of Your servants, O All-Wealthy
To the presence of Your two servants, O Self-Sufficient One.
يَرجوكَhopes in You ذاthis العَبدُservant فَاِعفُso pardon عَنهُhim
يَرجوكَ ذا العَبدُ فَاِعفُ عَنهُ

يا رُبَّما يَسعَدُ الشَقِيُّ
This servant hopes in You, so pardon him;
This servant hopes in You, so pardon him.
Your servant implores You, so pardon him
This servant places his hope in You, so grant him pardon;
O—how often the wretched may find happiness!
Oh, perhaps the wretched may be blessed.
Perhaps the wretched one may become fortunate
For perhaps even the wretched soul may find felicity.
يَسِّرmake easy عَلَيهِfor him العَسيرَthe difficult وَاِنصُرand grant aid
يَسِّر عَلَيهِ العَسيرَ وَاِنصُر
فَإِنَّكَfor You are الناصِرُthe Helper الوَلِيُّthe Protector
فَإِنَّكَ الناصِرُ الوَلِيُّ
Make the difficult easy for him, and aid him,
Make his hardship easy, and grant aid,
Make easy for him the difficult, and support him
Ease for him what is difficult, and grant Your aid,
for You are the helping Protector.
For You are the Helper, the Protector.
For surely You are the Supporter, the Guardian
For You are the Helper, the Protector.
يَئِستُI have despaired إِنif لَمnot تَجُدYou bestow generously بِعَفوٍwith pardon

يَنجو بِهِ عَبدُكَ العَصِيُّ
I despair if You do not bestow a pardon
I despair unless You generously grant pardon,
I despair if with pardon You do not find
I would be in despair if You did not generously bestow forgiveness,
by which Your disobedient servant may be saved.
By which Your disobedient servant is saved.
Your disobedient servant saved by it
Through which Your disobedient servant may be saved.

عاصيكَ يَرجوكَ وَالتَقِيُّ
Your hands are outspread with provision;
Both Your hands are outstretched with sustenance;
Your hands outstretched with sustenance
Your hands are outstretched with provision;
Your sinner hopes in You, as does the God-fearing.
He who disobeys You hopes in You, and so does the devout.
The disobedient implores You, and the devout
The sinner hopes in You, just as the pious one does.

وَطائِعُ المُزدَهي أَلِيُّ
The flourishing growth of youth’s garden is dry,
The bloom of youth's garden is withered,
The meadow of youth is withered and dry
The blooming garden of youth has withered dry,
and the flourishing one’s pliant [companion] is sluggish.
And the proud one's obedient follower is feeble.
While the obedient, adorned one is supple
And the vigor of the proud one has diminished.

Time—with calamities—
Time, with calamities,
Time betrayed me
Time has assaulted with calamities,
treacherously, though I am faithful.
Treacherously, though I am faithful.
Though I remained faithful
Treacherously, though I remained faithful.

Gray hair is enough for me: truly, in it is
Gray hair suffices me; indeed, in it is
My gray hair suffices me, for within it
Grey hair suffices as a warning for me, for within it
guidance for one whose heart has strayed.
Guidance for one whose heart is astray.
Is wisdom, for one whose heart went astray
Lies guidance for him whose heart has gone astray.

Your right hand, had you lived, would have been my helper,
Had you lived for me, your right hand would be my wellspring,
Your manners, had you lived with me, my ally
Your right hand, had you lived, would have been my support,
and your pleasing character my garden.
And your pleasing character would be my garden.
And my meadow, were your agreeable nature
And your pleasing character would have been my garden.

It would wither if my grief settled there;
It would wither if my grief settled within it;
It would wither and collapse if my love dwelt in it
Mount Yadhbul, were my sorrow to descend upon it,
its near and its far would surely fall.
Its near and distant parts would surely fall.
However firm and distant it was
Would collapse, from its nearest slopes to its farthest peaks.

Yāsīn, when you drew near to it
Yā-Sīn—when you drew near to it,
O Yasmin, when you drew near it
O Yasin, when you drew near to it,
and said, “The intelligent may indeed gain mastery,”
And I said, "The clever one may gain mastery,"
And said, “The intelligent can be skillful”
And said, "Truly, the intelligent one perceives,"

that day we had a deed
That day, we would have a feast,
On that day we have a deed
On that day, an event came upon us,
witnessed by grown man and child.
Which the grown man and the boy would attend.
Witnessed by both elder and child
Witnessed by the elder and the young child alike.

Death made straight for you—and it is a cup
Death sought you out—and it is a cup;
Death has resolved to drink you, a cup
Death sought you out, and it is a cup
that no valiant warrior escapes drinking.
No armored warrior has escaped drinking it.
No protector has escaped drinking
From whose draught no brave warrior escapes.

ʿAbd al-Ghanī will intercede until
Abd al-Ghani intercedes so that
The servant of the All-Wealthy intercedes
Abd al-Ghani intercedes so that
ʿAlī is safe from his fear.
Ali may be safe from his fear.
Until the Exalted One feels safe from fear
Ali may be secure from his fear.

My intercessors in Him
My two intercessors for him
Muḥammad and my virtuous son.
Muhammad and my pure son.
Are Muhammad and his two pure sons
Are Muhammad and my son, the pure one.
