The lion-cub of the wilds, when he loosed
When the lion cub of al-Shara shot
When the hero of generosity shot
The young lion of the thicket, when he shot
death’s arrow, was himself struck by it.
The arrow of death, he encountered him.
The arrow of refusal, it met
The arrow of death, it struck him;

He beat back the foes—and if you ask,
He repelled the foes; and if you say,
The enemy, even if you say
He repelled the enemies, and if you ask,
“Who was the hunter?”—it was he.
“Who is it that hunted?”—it is he.
Who met it, it is he
"Who is the one who hunted?" — then it is he.
