After you, I complained of this age,
After you, I lamented the times
I complained of the injustice of time after you were gone,
Even if its lanterns came to my aid.
Though days helped me, their lights were dim
Even if the spears of the Dīl tribe granted me victory,
وَأظلَمتُand I grew dark حَتّىuntil كَأَنَّas though الدُجىthe night's darkness

خَبا مِنكَ ضَوءُ قَناديلِهِ
And I grew dark, until it seemed that the night
I was in darkness, as if the dusk
And I was plunged into darkness, until it seemed as if the night
Had lost its lanterns’ light because of you.
Had put out the lamps' rays for me
Had the light of its lanterns extinguished because of your loss.
