Gone is he upon whom all people, whenever he appeared,
Gone is he upon whom, whenever he appeared, people
Gone is the one whom the people, whenever he appeared,
would fix their eyes and take delight.

Would fasten their eyes upon and find delight.

Persist in ignorance, my enemy, gloating;
Increase your folly, my enemy, as you gloat;
Increase in your folly, O gloating enemy,
but if you wish to be free of blame, rise above it.
And if you wish to clear yourself, then refrain.
And if you seek absolution, then purify yourself.
