A poem containing blasphemy was discovered, so it was pinned on me.
A poem containing blasphemy was found and pinned on me.
A poem rife with blasphemy was found, and pinned to me,
How many a poet has had poems put into his mouth!
And many a poet has had verses put into his mouth.
And how many a poet has had verses forged upon his tongue.
ومِنand from كلِّevery كفٍّhand قدindeed رُمِيتُI was pelted بصخرةٍwith a rock
ومِن كلِّ كفٍّ قد رُمِيتُ بصخرةٍ
وفيand in راحتيmy palm لوif أَمْكَنَwere feasible الرأْيُthe plan أَحجارُstones
وفي راحتي لو أَمْكَنَ الرأْيُ أَحجارُ
From every hand I have been pelted with a stone,
And from every hand I have been pelted with a rock.
From every hand, I have been pelted with a rock,
while in my palm—if judgment permitted—there are stones.
And in my palm are stones—if my plan could be carried out.
While in my palm, were judgment to allow, lie stones.
