In Rayya is the fragrance of a garden and meadows.

In her are two beacons of learning and the most just of judges.

Their lofty merits tower above the stars,

And their judgment takes effect through Mashrafi swords.

I have wearied of my life and of dwelling in Tangier,

As though God's lands were not vast.

My bough will sprout leaves if I settle in Rayya,

And all the whiteness at my temples will turn black,

Beside her two moons—indeed, in their radiant brows

Are guidance for the blind and healing for the sick.

O Rayya, my fertile pasture and my she-camels,

And you are a daughter in Ibn Iyad's keeping.
