ثُمَّ أذكى قَلبَ مَن مَنّى عَطَش
Once my beloved granted me my fill,
My beloved once granted relief from thirst.
My beloved once bestowed the favor of quenching thirst,
then set ablaze the heart of one whom thirst had filled with longing.
Then thirst kindled the heart of the one he had filled with hope.
Then kindled thirst in the heart of the one he had favored;
كانَhe was منّاحُa lavish giver ملثٍّunceasing rain هاطِلٍpouring down
كانَ منّاحُ ملثٍّ هاطِلٍ
وَأَراهُand I see him آنِفاًjust now مَنّاعَwithholding طَشa drizzle
وَأَراهُ آنِفاً مَنّاعَ طَش
He was a lavish giver of steady, pouring rain,
He was a lavish giver of ceaseless, pouring rain.
He was a lavisher of steady, pouring rain,
but now I see him withholding even a drizzle.
Yet just now I see him withholding even a drizzle.
But now I see him withholding even a drizzle.
