يَقِظاًalert كانَhe was إِنif يُصِخhe listens attentively
يَقِظاً كانَ إِن يُصِخ
لِلأَحاديثِto the tales يَنقهhe understands
لِلأَحاديثِ يَنقه
He was alert; if he listened attentively
Awake he was if he brays
Vigilant was he; whenever he listened
to tales, he understood.
To the talks he winnows
To the tales, he would comprehend.
ماnot لَهُhe has غَيرُother than ناقَهa she-camel
ما لَهُ غَيرُ ناقَه
وَهوَand he مَنone who يرقis treated with a healing charm يَنقَهhe recovers
وَهوَ مَن يرق يَنقَه
He has nothing but a she-camel,
He has none but his she-camel
He possesses nothing but a she-camel,
and he is one who recovers when treated with a healing charm.
And he who weighs winnows
And he is one who, when he chants, restores.
