You passed through like an arrow, yet it was death
The arrow's penetration was deep, yet it caused devastation
You have penetrated like the flight of an arrow, yet it is destruction,
that joined a passing one from you to Fihr’s forebears.
With ancestors of many conquests, it remained penetrating
Joining men to the ancestors of Fihr more effectively than you.

Here after you are alembics of doddering men;
After you, O dove of gracefully swaying walk
Mere shambling fools are what remain right here in your wake;
whenever you reproach them, in that reproach I revile hedgehogs.
When did I ever blame them? Rather I remained penetrating
When you reproach them for their vice, they bristle stubbornly like hedgehogs.
