ماتdied عَبَّادٌʿAbbād وَلكْنand yet
مات عَبَّادٌ وَلكْن
بَقِيَremains الفرعُthe branch (offspring) الكريمُthe noble
بَقِيَ الفرعُ الكريمُ
ʿAbbād has died, and yet
'Abad died but still
Abbad has died, but
the noble branch remains.
The generous branch remains
The noble branch remains,
فكأنَّso it is as though المَيْتَthe dead man حيٌّalive
فكأنَّ المَيْتَ حيٌّ
غيرَexcept أنَّthat الضَادَthe letter ḍād مِيمُthe letter mīm
غيرَ أنَّ الضَادَ مِيمُ
So it is as though the dead man were alive,
As though the dead lives on
So it is as if the dead were alive,
except that the letter ḍād is mīm.
Except the D is an M
Except that the 'Dad' is a 'Meem'.
