تَبَلَّجَbroke forth صُبحُthe dawn الذِهنِof intellect مِنّيfrom me واضِحاًclear and bright
فَغارَتso they sank from sight مِنَof الأَموالِwealth شُهبٌstars عَواتِمُdim
The dawn of intellect broke within me, clear and bright,
so the dim stars of wealth sank from sight.
وَلَوand if كانَwere لَيلُthe night الجَهلِof ignorance عِنديwithin me حالِكاًpitch-dark
لَلاحَتwould have shone بِهِin it مِثلَlike النُجومِthe stars الدَراهِمُthe dirhams
And had the night of ignorance within me been pitch-dark,
the dirhams would have shone in it like stars.
