She marveled at my attire when it grew threadbare,
She was amazed at my garment when she wove it,
while she wears flowing brocade.
As she chose the heavy brocade.
هَذِهِyou there (feminine) لاdo not تَعجَبِيmarvel منat هَذِهِthis
قَبلَهَاbefore it أُلبِسَwere clothed دُرٌّpearls صَدَفَاshells
You there, do not marvel at this:
Do not be amazed at this,
before it, pearls were clothed in shells.
For before it was clad in pearls and shells.
لاdo not تَظُنِّيthink الدَّهرَTime لِيme مُستَلِباًrobbing

Do not think Time has robbed me;
Do not think time has stripped me,
it has only unsheathed a keen blade from me.
Rather it has undressed me of finery.

Indeed, the moisture that was in her cheek—
The water that filled her cheeks
age drank of it until it dried up.
Old age has dried until vanished.

And the jujube fruit of her fingertips withered,
The anemones on her fingers withered,
so the nights turned it into shriveled dates.
Yet the nights restored them blooming.
