We have indeed sent it to benefit the organs,

when it gently dispels the heat.

deceiving the eye with its delicacy and clarity.

A sight that gladdens hearts, and a taste

whose experience the soul gratefully savors.

The delight of union, attained after despair

by an ardent lover who long lamented estrangement.

with it, and makes tawny wine blush.

ripeness, utterly putting its taste to shame.

Except that I sent this as nourishment,

which the young man craves, and that as medicine:

a soothing remedy that cools the constitution when

it seethes with burning heat, and suppresses yellow bile.
