ثِقيtrust بيin me ياO مُعَذِّبَتيmy tormentor فَإِنّيfor indeed I
سَأَحفَظُI shall preserve فيكِtoward you ماwhat ضَيَّعتِyou neglected مِنّيof mine
Trust me, O my tormentor, for I
Trust me, my tormentor, for I
shall keep faith with you where you have failed to keep it with me.
Will keep safe in you what you have lost of me
وَإِنand though أَصبَحتِyou have become قَدalready أَرضَيتِyou pleased قَوماًsome people
بِسُخطيthrough my displeasure لَمnot يَكُنwas ذاthis فيكِof you ظَنّيmy expectation
And though you have now pleased some people
And if you have pleased a people
by angering me, this was not what I expected of you.
With my displeasure, that was not my view of you
وَهَلand is there قَلبٌa heart كَقَلبِكِlike your heart فيwithin ضُلوعيmy ribs
فَأَسلوso I forget عَنكِabout you حينَwhen سَلَوتِyou forgot عَنّيabout me
And is there a heart like yours within my ribs,
Is there a heart like yours in my chest
that I should forget you when you forgot me?
That I would ask about you when you asked about me
تَمَنَّتwished أَنto تَنالَattain رِضاكِyour favor نَفسيmy soul
فَكانَand became مَنِيَّةًdeath ذاكَthat التَمَنّيwish
My soul wished to win your favor,
My soul wished that it would attain your satisfaction
and that wish became my death.
That wish was its demise
وَلَمand did not أَجنِI commit الذُنوبَthe offenses فَتَحقِديهاso you resent them
وَلَكِنand yet عادَةٌa habit مِنكِof yours التَجَنّيgroundless accusation
And I have committed no offenses for you to resent,
And I did not commit sins for you to resent them
yet groundless accusation is a habit of yours.
But it is your habit to suspect
